CLAY COUNTY, 2019
SD, Mini-DV, sound/color, 15:29 (trailer 1:25)
The award-winning documentary portrait of a rural county in the state of Georgia. Eighteen teenage boys attend a class sponsored by the school system where the dynamic instructor urges them to consider the honest lessons of Black American life. With unusual realism, neither idealizing nor making commentary, CLAY COUNTY shows what it’s like to live in our world through people who are not normally filmed. Expanding the classroom lessons of race, the film also ties identity to a regional sense of place, including the land and local radio of southwest Georgia. CLAY COUNTY is the first installment in a video trilogy documenting the everyday lives of teenagers and their families in the far corners of the state.
